David Kohl loves the white wines of Italy and was pleased to reconnect with the Pecorino white wine grape while judging in Chicago during Sommelier’s Choice Awards event. Pecorino grapes grow in Abruzzo region, along The Adriatic Sea and share a name with the better known Pecorino cheese, both of which have an affiliation with “Pecora” the Italian word for sheep. While Pecorino cheese is made from sheep milk, the Pecorino white wine grape has been known as a favorite snack of sheep grazing in local vineyards. Consumers looking for an Italian white wine more adventurous than a simple Pinot Grigio would be wise to seek out Pecorino varietals that retail in the value range of $15. #winepodcast #wine #italy #italianwine #abruzzo #pecorino #whitewine #sommelierschoiceawards

David Kohl presents the thriving winemaking region of Mexico. While best associated with cerveza & tequila, many do not realize that The Domecq Family, with historic roots in Jerez-Spain, established vineyards in the early 1960’s within Baja Peninsula : Valle de Guadalupe. This achievement predates Napa Valley although the story is not widely known. Today we taste a rich red offering from Domecq that is a unique blend of 3 grapes : Carignan along with Barbera & Ruby Cabernet. Ruby Cabernet is a hybrid grape (Cabernet / Carignan) that was created to withstand a high heat threshold. The blended selection reflects a spicy black cherry nuance with hints of cocoa. Retailing in the $15 range this is a great discovery. #winepodcast #wine #mexicanwine #mexico #bajamexico #domecq #redwinelover #mexicanfood
